Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds & More Join Funny X-Men Reunion for 'Global Goal: Unite for Our Future'

Why Global Citizens Should Care
The COVID-19 pandemic threatens the health of people worldwide. The United Nations calls on countries to invest in and strengthen health care systems under Global Goal 3. Actor and Global Citizen Ambassador Hugh Jackman tried to reunite over Zoom with his castmates from X-Men — Halle Berry, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Famke Janssen — during Global Goal: Unite for Our Future — The Concert on Saturday.

But Ryan Reynolds, who was in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, joined the call and things took a bit of a turn — much like many of the X-Men films do.

“I hope it’s OK if I join, I figured we were all in X-Men together,” Reynolds said.

Despite the others reiterating that the reunion was for X-Men Origins specifically, Reynolds invited James McAvoy and Sophie Turner to join.

“Oh, sorry, I thought this was the Game of Thrones reunion,” Turner said after joining, before quickly leaving the chat.

Soon, nearly everyone had left to attend other reunions (for Star Trek and James Bond, for instance) except Reynolds and Jackman.

“That fell apart quickly,” Reynolds said. “Guess it’s just me and you, Logan ... You know what that makes this a reunion for?”

X-Men Origins: Reunite. Yeah! ” Liev Schrieber, who suddenly joined the call full of excitement, said.

The silly skit ended, and Jackman returned to the screen alone to commemorate today’s true superheroes.

The world is currently confronting the COVID-19 pandemic and reckoning with systemic racism and colonialism. Amid these crises, countless heroes have emerged to guide communities to a more equitable place.

“Sometime in the not-too-distant future, the hard work of every global citizen will bring about a healthier, safer, more equitable world,” he said. “To all the first responders, essential workers, and those fighting for racial justice, I stand in awe of your efforts this year and I stand with you.”

Earlier in the day, Global Goal: Unite for Our FutureThe Summit brought together world leaders, activists, and philanthropists for a pledging event that mobilized more than $1.5 billion in grants and $5.4 billion in loans for a total of more than $6.9 billion pledged to support COVID-19 relief. The commitments will help to provide equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines, as well as support for the world’s poorest and most marginalized communities.
