These Incredible Global Citizens Are Nominated in Australia’s 2020 ARIA Awards
Congratulations on the nominations to all.
On Wednesday, Nov. 25, the 34th annual ARIA Music Awards will take place in Sydney.
Widely regarded as the most revered night in the Australian music calendar, the ARIA Music Awards focus on celebrating greatness and artistry across all genres of Australian music.
This year, nine incredible Global Citizen Festival artists and Global Citizen supporters have been nominated across a range of categories, including Best Female Artist, Best Soul Release, Best Male Artist, Best Australian Live Act and Best International Artist.
In the lead-up to the awards night, we wanted to take the time to thank these incredible musicians for championing Global Citizen by getting behind our fight to end extreme poverty by 2030 and make the world a better, more just place for all.
Host: Delta Goodrem
Australia’s sweetheart Delta Goodrem is the host of this year’s ARIA awards, and we are stoked for her. Goodrem has been one of Global Citizen Australia’s most dedicated supporters, featuring in both of Global Citizen’s COVID-19 relief shows, One World: Together At Homeand Global Goal: Unite for Our Future.
"I am excited to share my partnership with Global Citizen to continue to support overcoming the COVID-19 crisis. It has impacted all of our lives, but it has affected underserved communities and people in poverty at a much higher rate. I believe together we can continue to help everyone, everywhere get equal access to treatment,” Goodrem said in a special message to Global Citizens earlier this year.
In June, Goodrem also gave one lucky Global Citizen the opportunity to attend a virtual meet and greet, as well as the option to perform a duet with her and receive a signed merch item via Global Citizen Rewards. You can check out Goodrem’s special message here and watch her One World: Together At Home performance here.
Amy Shark has been nominated in a whopping three categories this year: Best Australian Live Act, Best Pop Release and Best Female Artist. The indie-pop singer-songwriter joined Global Citizen this year as part of the Together At Home campaign, where musicians, actors and influencers performed mini-concerts on Instagram Live to bring joy amid the depth of global stay-at-home orders.
The initiative was launched in mid-March by Global Citizen and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The incredibly talented Tash Sultana likewise joined Global Citizen for an epic half-hour set as part of the Together At Home campaign. Alongside partnering with Global Citizen to help stop the spread of coronavirus and show support for the WHO’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, Sultana has also long supported environmental campaigns, most notably participating in the Down to Earth Australian bushfire relief concert in February.
Sultana has been nominated in the Best Soul / R&B Release Category for her single “Pretty Lady.”
Nominated in both the Best Male Artist and Best Video category, Guy Sebastian could win big.
Earlier this year, Sebastian performed hits like "Before I Go," "Set in Stone," "Battle Scars," and "Big Bad World" for his legions of fans as part of the Together At Home campaign. During his Instagram Live performance for Global Citizen, Sebastian told viewers not to lose hope amid the pandemic.
“I know this is tough for a lot of people, a huge life change,” Guy said. “We are all in this together; no one is more important than anyone else. We are all in the same weird existence. It’s important to be positive. To those struggling, I would say, don’t let your thoughts run ahead.”
Rufus Du Sol and 5 Seconds of Summer, two bands who have previously distributed free tickets to their shows for fans who take action with Global Citizen, have also been nominated. Rufus Du Sol has been nominated for Best Australian Live Act, while 5 Seconds of Summer can be found in both the Best Group and Song Of The Year categories.
Meanwhile, Global Citizen Festival 2018 performer The Weeknd, One World: Together At Home supporters Lizzo and Taylor Swift and Global Goal: Unite for Our Future artist Justin Bieber have all been nominated in the Best International Artist Category.
Best of luck to all these incredible nominees, and thank you for being Global Citizens.
