About globalcitizen.org

Want to take action to end injustice and inequality in the world? Great! Chances are you're a global citizen, and you're the reason why we created the Global Citizen platform.

Here, you can connect with information, organizations, events, and campaigns - all geared towards the goal of ending extreme poverty by 2030.

Global Citizen works in partnership with and supports some of the most effective organisations out there. We are committed to bringing you the most interesting stories, effective actions and powerful campaigns so that you can play your part in the movement to end extreme poverty.

Right now, there are 1.2 billion people in the world who are deprived of basic rights and opportunities to achieve their potential. We're a community, hundreds of thousands of people strong, who just aren't willing to accept that--and we're doing something about it. This is the place where you can amplify your voice, use your passion, and take action.

In 2015 we stand at the turning point for the future of people and the planet, as world leaders will make decisions that determine our future in at two crucial summits. Global Citizen is a proud member of Action/2015 and is calling on accelerated action to achieve progress and ensure no country is left behind.

The Global Citizen platform was created by the Global Poverty Project in 2012, as a hub for innovative campaigns that work towards a world where every child can survive and thrive. A world where every child has a chance to go to school, a world where women and girls are protected from violence, and where preventable diseases aren't holding people back. And more. These are things worth fighting for, and the progress that is happening is really exciting.

On Global Citizen, you truly can change the world. Get in!

Global citizens believe that the world can bring about the end of extreme poverty by 2030.

It won't be quick, and it certainly won't be easy, but it can happen if we - as global citizens - create an unstoppable movement committed to changing the systems and structures that keep people trapped in extreme poverty.

Extreme poverty won't be ended by charities, businesses or governments working alone. Realising the potential of every person on the planet, this platform - Global Citizen - brings together the support of all of charities, businesses and governments.

When an organised, critical mass of individuals partner with leading organisations, get organised and equipped to take meaningful action, together we can change specific policies and practices that contribute to keeping people in extreme poverty.

Repeat this cycle across many issues, and this movement can ensure that our governments, businesses and selves act in support of the world’s poor, so that progressively, the systems, structures, policies and processes are changed, ending extreme poverty by 2030. Global citizens - you - are at the heart of our strategy to creating meaningful and systemic changes for the world's poorest people.

Together with partners this platform makes change happen through our theory of change:

We design and host campaigns on critical issues

Capitalize on influential moments and people

Channel the voices and actions of global citizens

Support global citizens and others like you to build a movement of people working to end extreme poverty

victories that affect lives bringing the world closer to zero poverty by 2030

At Global Citizen, we believe we can achieve more and better impact for the world’s poor together, so we’re building and empowering a movement of people that includes people like you.

By providing platforms like the Global Citizen website and events, more and better impact becomes possible through the catalysing effect of channelling your voices and actions. Global Citizen amplifies our unified voice as a clear public mandate, making world leaders accountable to us, encouraging them to bring about systemic policy changes for the world’s poorest people.

We will share with you how world leaders respond to your call and the difference this is making to the world’s poorest people. And if they don’t respond, we will hold the mirror up and keep on channelling the voices of global citizens until no one is living in extreme poverty any more.
