Global Citizen:

A Recovery Plan for the World

A campaign to end COVID-19 and kickstart a global recovery.

A recovery plan for
everyone, everywhere

If we can get vaccines to everyone who needs them, get children back in classrooms, get food back on the table for everyone, recommit to protecting our planet, and make serious progress on achieving better equity, we will be in a much stronger place to achieve the Global Goals by 2030. Without it, we will fail.

Global Citizen's white paper, "A Recovery Plan for the World" takes a deep dive into the issues we need to work together to solve.

End COVID-19 for All

Ensuring equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines for everyone, everywhere.

A true recovery from COVID-19 will only happen once everyone, everywhere has access to testing, treatment, and vaccines. It is critical that the world’s richest countries ensure the world’s poorest has access to these, by supporting COVAX and ACT-A, donating surplus vaccine supply, and supporting vaccine manufacturing efforts. And people everywhere must be confident in the vaccine and get it as soon as they have access.

How do we do this?

  • Increased funding for ACT-A and COVAX to ensure every country can access vaccines.
  • Wealthy countries need to donate excess doses to poorer countries to tamp down variant strains.
  • Equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines, treatments, and diagnostics must be ensured for everyone, everywhere.

Stop the Hunger Crisis

If the world is to ever rebound from COVID-19, the worsening hunger crisis must be addressed.

The world’s food systems rest on a knife’s edge. Extreme weather fueled by the climate crisis has ruined crops, and the pandemic has severed supply lines, casting millions into starvation. Supporting smallholder farmers, funding school feeding programs, and strengthening our global food systems are the best ways to stop the hunger crisis.

How do we do this?

  • Support smallholder farmers hit hardest by the pandemic.
  • Fund school feeding programs so no child goes hungry.
  • Ensure commitments to nutrition and food systems.

Resume Learning Everywhere

Education fosters opportunity, safety, and hope, which builds a more secure, equitable world.

Before COVID-19 emerged, 1 in 6 children were out of school. With COVID-19, the numbers of children in school plummeted even further. School closures affected over 1.5 billion children worldwide and, according to UNICEF, one-third of school children have been unable to access remote learning. Without the right resources, like distance learning tools and training for remote teaching, many of the most marginalized children may never return to school due to risks such as falling into child labor or child marriage.

How do we do this?

  • Increase investment in global education.
  • Prioritize the world’s most vulnerable learners.
  • Help students bridge the digital divide with technology resources.

Protect the Planet

Glaciers are melting, water is rising, and the world's poorest people are being impacted the most.

We know that the 20 richest countries are responsible for 80% of carbon emissions. But it is the most marginalized people around the world who are bearing the brunt of our planet’s destruction. We must restart climate action before the consequences are too severe to recover from.

How do we do this?

  • Increased climate financing.
  • Support low-carbon economies.
  • Promote carbon neutrality, especially for underserved communities and people living in extreme poverty.

Advance Equity for All

Ensuring a fair, just, and inclusive recovery.

To help the world recover, we must bring everyone with us. The pandemic has been especially devastating for women, people of color, and the world's poorest. Equity and fairness for all are essential to eradicating extreme poverty and achieving a better future.
