Each week, streaming sites like Netflix, HBO, and Amazon release a whole spate of new movies for us to gobble up.

Global Citizen has scoured the endless landscape of TV, movies, and streaming services to find the best things for you to watch. Check back every week as we present the latest and best offerings for you to enjoy.

Streaming:

Barry” on Netflix, Biopic

Everyone loves a good biopic. As the Obama era comes to a close and the United States enters a new and uncertain political future, Global Citizens might enjoy a look back at Obama’s life and the makings of the 44th president.

Oriented” on Amazon, Documentary

As Palestinians and members of the LGBTQ community, the subjects of this documentary are marginalized in more ways than one. The documentary chronicles three individuals’ search for identity in an almost impossibly complex political and social situation.

The Interpreter” on Hulu, Film

A political thriller that was banned in Zimbabwe because of the obvious parallels it drew to President Robert Mugabe, “The Interpreter” is about the fictional country of Matobo. A United Nations interpreter, played by Nicole Kidman, becomes accidentally embroiled in a plot to overthrow the leader of Matobo.

God Grew Tired of Us” on Netflix, Documentary

If anyone has read "What is the What" by Dave Eggers, they will be familiar with the “lost boys” of Sudan. Narrated by Nicole Kidman (of course), “God Grew Tired of Us” tells the story of three refugees forced to leave Sudan during its brutal civil war as they try to adapt to life in the United States.

The Clean Bin Project” on Amazon, Documentary

How can individuals contribute to a more sustainable and ecological world? By entering into a fierce waste-reduction competition with their romantic partners, of course. This documentary shows us how we can become more conscious about the waste we produce and have fun while doing it.

In theaters:

“Fences,” Film

Starring Denzel Washington and Viola Davis, “Fences” considers the many obstacles African-Americans must face to achieve some semblance of the "American Dream." Told with wit and grace, this film is an on-screen adaptation of the eponymous 1985 theater production starring James Earl Jones.
