In 1995 in Beijing, global leaders developed the world’s most visionary agenda to empower girls and women. Since then, incredible steps have been taken globally to achieve a world where She Is Equal. 

The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action laid down a visionary agenda for a world where every girl and woman would have access to her equal rights, including education, equal employment, and control over her own future.

We have come a long way in creating a better world for those women turning 25 in 2020, and for girls coming into the world today. But to fulfill the promises made through the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, we have unfinished business to complete — 130 million girls are still missing out on their education, a girl is married as a child bride every 2 seconds, and 800 women die every day from preventable problems during pregnancy and childbirth. 

In an effort to call on leaders to ensure all commitments made in the Beijing Declaration are delivered, we are kicking off part one of our Possible Dream campaign. It’s part of our growing initiative to underscore the Global Citizen brand is a policy-driven organization and global movement with specific positive outcomes in mind as they relate to gender equality, sustainability, and human capital.

This campaign illustrates what the possible dream looks like — should we take collective action today and capture the commitments necessary to make it happen tomorrow. 

Part one of our campaign highlights this dream: a world where every girl and woman would have access to her equal rights, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, disability, or location. The artwork itself paints merely two examples of the juxtaposition between the current reality of gender inequality and its potential eradication in the future.

At the end of the day, we want to put forth a positive and hopeful image of progress, capable only by taking action today. Now, we’re calling on you to commit to Generation Equality to convince world leaders to live out the promises made by the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

Let’s demand equality and empower women and girls everywhere. Let’s build a world where She Is Equal.
