The Brazilian Amazon faces increasing threats from deforestation, illegal mining, and land grabbing — but there is hope. Indigenous, quilombola, and traditional communities are the best guardians of the forest, yet more than 90% lack adequate internet access. Without connectivity, they face barriers in protecting their territories, accessing essential services, and strengthening their cultural and economic development.
The Conexão Povos da Floresta project seeks to bring broadband internet and solar energy to more than 5,000 communities, benefiting around 1 million people and protecting 120 million hectares of forest. By connecting these territories, the project will strengthen territorial monitoring, expand access to telemedicine, distance education, and sustainable economic opportunities, while amplifying cultural preservation and community governance.
Take the quiz to explore how connectivity transforms forest protection and how you can help these communities safeguard the Amazon.
