Did you know that cattle ranching has caused over 90% of deforestation in the past 20 years? But there are alternatives that make sense for both the environment and the economy. Bioeconomy offers sustainable solutions — like açaí and cocoa agroforestry and plant-based technologies — that can generate much more income per hectare than cattle ranching, while protecting the forest and its biodiversity.
The “Biohubs for Food System Transition in the Amazon” project aims to turn these ideas into action. It seeks to connect local communities, Indigenous peoples, researchers, and governments, creating opportunities for learning, market access, and support so that sustainable alternatives can truly grow. Want to learn more about the project and the enormous potential of bioeconomy? Take the quiz and be surprised by the data!
