Africa is feeling the heat — literally. From Malawi’s devastating floods which destroyed homes to the Horn of Africa’s worst drought in 40 years, climate extremes are hitting hard — threatening lives, straining health systems, and making food and clean water harder to access.
Yet only 22 of 54 African countries have national plans in place to protect health from climate shocks — and fewer than 1 in 5 have made health part of their climate pledges.
But there’s hope. In 2024, health and climate leaders came together to chart a bold 5-year plan to help African nations build stronger, more resilient health systems. The vision is there. Now we need action.
Add your name to the open letter which will be handed over to leaders ahead of COP 30 — because a healthier, safer, climate-ready Africa can’t wait.
