The impacts of COVID-19 must be alleviated to prevent poverty from deepening in Nigeria. Even before the crisis, approximately 4 in 10 Nigerians were living on $1.90 per day. Now, with 79% of Nigerian households losing their income as a result of COVID-19, and nearly 40 million jobs expected to be lost by December, the economic crisis makes more people vulnerable to falling into extreme poverty.
That’s why Global Citizen is proud to launch the Nigeria Solidarity Support Fund to provide support in the fight to respond to the effects of COVID-19 in Nigeria. In partnership with the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), the fund will meet the needs of the most vulnerable, strengthen healthcare systems and reskill Nigeria’s youth.
History shows that real change happens when we are united — so we must unite to support these efforts at nation-building. By publicly pledging our support, we can inspire our family and friends, around the world to transform lives.
Make a pledge now, writing your dreams of a new Nigeria, and share on social media, to show your commitment to transforming the lives of vulnerable Nigerians so that more people can get involved. Every action has an impact!
