Why Global Citizens Should Care
Access to quality health care is an essential part of equity and ending injustice, ensuring that everyone, everywhere, has the tools they need to be healthy. The Global Goal: Unite for Our Future campaign aims to help ensure that tests, vaccines, and treatments against COVID-19 reach all communities equally, including those living in extreme poverty and people of colour, who have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic. Join the movement by taking action here to urge world leaders to commit their support.

On June 27, Global Goal: Unite for Our Future — The Summit & The Concert premiered globally, using the power of music to help ensure the solutions to the coronavirus are available to everyone, everywhere.

The day of action brought some of the world’s leading artists together with comedians, cultural figures, and global leaders from both politics and science to fight for the world we truly want to live in.

The day began with Global Goal: Unite for Our Future — The Summit, giving world leaders, corporates, and philanthropists the opportunity to make pledges to accelerate the development and equitable distribution of COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines — and mitigate the impact of the pandemic on the world’s most vulnerable.

"Global Goal: Unite for Our Future" mobilised more than $1.5 billion in new grants and $5.4 billion in loans and guarantees, for a total of $6.9 billion pledged to provide equitable access to COVID-19 tests, treatments, and vaccines, as well as support for the world's poorest and most marginalised communities.

The concert was a celebration of that stunning impact — and it's available to watch back for a little while longer.

Hosted by Dwayne Johnson, the Concert featured performances from — deep breath — Shakira, Coldplay, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber and Quavo, J Balvin, Chloe x Halle, Yemi Alade, Christine and the Queens, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Original Broadway Cast of HAMILTON with Jimmy Fallon & The Roots, J’Nai Bridges with Gustavo Dudamel, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles), and the For Love Choir.

There were also appearances from Chris Rock, Hugh Jackman, Kerry Washington, Charlize Theron, Forest Whitaker, David Beckham, Salma Hayek Pinault, Billy Porter, Diane Kruger, Antoni Porowski, Ken Jeong, Naomi Campbell, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Olivia Colman.

The previous time Coldplay and Shakira played a Global Citizen show together, frontman Chris Martin sang in Spanish.  When Jennifer Hudson joined us at the Royal Albert Hall in December, she covered “Hallelujah” acapella — while Christine and the Queens’ restorative performance for One World: Together At Home from her Paris flat was a stunning moment of shared pain just as the world felt at its weakest.

There’s always so many unmissable moments. And on Saturday, they all returned for more performances with one joint purpose: making sure the world’s most marginalised communities aren’t left behind in the global response to the pandemic.

If you're in the UK, here's a few ways you can catch up on the show.

1. Global Citizen's YouTube

Whether you’re tuning in for Lin-Manuel Miranda or Angela Merkel, you can watch both the summit and the concert back in their entirety on our YouTube channel.

You can also check out the live stream pinned to the top of Global Citizen UK's Facebook and Twitter. But be quick — the full concert is available to watch until the Wednesday July 1. But fear not: you can still catch up on the individual performances on all our social media channels, and on our YouTube.

2. MTV Music UK

We know what you’re thinking. When Usher comes on, you want that on the big screen.

Do not fear — Global Goal: Unite for Our Future will be broadcast on TV too.

Tune to watch the whole show from 9 p.m. BST on Tuesday June 30.

3. LadBible

When LadBible asked a question during one of 10 Downing Street’s daily coronavirus press briefings, it trended on Twitter. But despite the LadBible’s robust record reporting on social justice issues, especially those affecting young people, many were surprised to see them share a platform with newspapers and stations that had been around for generations.

We weren’t. Since the pandemic has started, LadBible has been working with the World Health Organization (WHO) to get clear, verified information about the virus to its immense audience of 140 million followers across all platforms. It’s part of a campaign to ensure it uses its reach “responsibly” during the crisis.

This felt like the next natural step. You can watch the whole show back on their Facebook page — available until Wednesday July 1.
