At the moment, staying at home is one of the most effective methods of stopping coronavirus — but what happens when restrictions are lifted?
One of our best hopes of stopping COVID-19 in its tracks is developing an effective vaccine. Vaccines prevent people catching or spreading the virus. When enough people are vaccinated, the disease will no longer be able to spread — saving millions of lives.
But right now, the organisations at the forefront of developing and distributing a vaccine urgently need more funding to help save lives. The Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) is working with the world’s most advanced researchers to find a successful vaccine at record speed, whilst Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance can help to ensure everyone, everywhere gets access to the vaccine when it’s ready.
Every mother just wants the best for their child, and some of us can feel concerned by rumors that vaccines can harm us or our kids. But the science is clear: vaccines are safe and they work. Since the year 2000, Gavi’s work has saved the lives of more than 10 million children, and polio — a deadly disease — has been eradicated from all but three countries worldwide.
We can beat coronavirus too — and the faster we do it, the more lives will be saved. Take action: call on world leaders to urgently give Gavi and CEPI the money they need to fight COVID-19.
