COVID-19 has affected us all in different ways — but one thing it has shown is our immense capacity for kindness and cooperation in times of need. We work best when we work to solve problems together.
Ordinary citizens are standing up to the current pandemic by joining forces to help each other. And world leaders are supporting international institutions like the World Health Organisation and Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance to do their part in protecting the most vulnerable.
Now we must make sure this lesson of cooperation does not get lost. We need to work together to see through the end of the COVID-19 pandemic and get tests, treatments and vaccines to everyone in need. And just as importantly, we have to make sure that world leaders continue to cooperate to beat other deadly diseases threatening people’s lives across the world.
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is at the forefront of making this happen. Gavi is working to make sure life-saving vaccines reach millions in extreme poverty around the world. Currently 20 million children a year miss out on the vital vaccinations they need to stay safe. Now Gavi, which has already saved over 13 million lives globally, is working to change all that.
We’re teaming up with international rock star Adam Lambert to show the best photos from you and thousands of other Global Citizens to some of the world’s most powerful decision makers ahead of an international summit about Gavi on June 4. Your photo will show world leaders there is support across the globe for Gavi’s work – and will urge leaders to keep funding its vital programmes.
It’s time to end disease inequality during this pandemic and beyond. Take your #DefeatDiseaseTogether picture now and show world leaders we’re united for our global future.
