The end of polio is well within reach.
While polio dominated in 125 countries in 1988, now, in 2022, just two nations remain, and the world is firmly on track to eradicate this disease once and for all. Of course, key challenges persist, and to finally see a world free of polio, we must ensure we reach every last child with the polio vaccine. This will require a global collective global collective effort between world leaders, civil society organisations, health workers and activists.
With the Global Polio Eradication Initiative asking countries for bold new financial commitments to ensure we reach every child with a vaccine, we thought there was no better time to learn about this highly contagious virus.
