Taking place at the historic Estação das Docas just months before COP30 brings the world to the Amazon, Global Citizen NOW: Amazônia will serve as a key milestone in the lead up to the UN Climate Summit. The one-day program will focus on three urgent priorities:

  • Mobilizing new investments to protect and restore the Amazon — including support for Indigenous land rights and the formal recognition of traditional territories,
  • Securing stronger commitments to phase out fossil fuels and expand renewable energy — with an emphasis on a just transition that protects workers and communities,
  • Delivering climate finance from high-emitting countries and industries — to help vulnerable communities build resilience and adapt to accelerating climate impacts.

All programming will be conducted in Portuguese, Spanish, and English with simultaneous translation. Every session will be filmed and distributed globally to amplify the voices of Amazonian leaders and connect local priorities to international decision-makers ahead of COP30.

Global Citizen NOW: Amazônia is sponsored by Banco do Brasil, in collaboration with Re:wild, with Policy Partners Bezos Earth Fund and Open Society Foundations, and produced by Gael Productions.

“At a moment when the world is looking to the Amazon and Brazil, we must make sure those who have been defending its life, land, and future for generations are at the center of every conversation. Global Citizen NOW: Amazônia is an important space to bring together Indigenous leaders from many territories, especially women and youth, to share our voices and visions. It is also a moment to show that the Amazon is not just a place to be protected – it is a place of wisdom, leadership, and solutions for the future,” said Célia Xakriabá, Federal Deputy, Indigenous Activist, and Co-Founder, ANMIGA.

“The Amazon isn’t just one of the world’s most important ecosystems for our climate – it’s home to over 40 million people, including hundreds of Indigenous nations. As deforestation pushes it toward a dangerous tipping point, we must not only listen, but act on the calls from those who’ve protected the rainforest for generations. That’s why this summit matters. Global Citizen NOW: Amazônia is a chance for Indigenous and regional leaders from across the Amazon to shape the COP30 agenda early – so when the world gathers here in November, we leave with a clear message: the status quo is not an option,” said Michael Sheldrick, Co-Founder and Chief Policy, Impact and Government Relations Officer, Global Citizen.
