The Pollution Management and Environmental Health program, backed by a new multi-donor trust fund, builds upon the knowledge of World Bank experts as well as global stakeholders and partners to significantly reduce air, land and water pollution levels and thereby improve health. The PMEH program will initially run from 2015 to 2020 and will focus primarily on air quality in countries facing rapid urbanization and will also tackle water and land pollution.
Pollution kills an estimated 9 million people a year around the world, overwhelmingly in developing countries. Responding to pollution is a priority to end poverty and restore a healthy environment. We are calling on global citizens to show leadership on this issue to demand that pollution be monitored and decisive actions be taken at all levels to save and improve people’s lives. We are launching the Pollution Management and Environmental Health program to #endpollution for healthy lives.
