The first-ever Global Citizen Festival to be staged in Latin America amplified the voices of local and Indigenous leaders from across the Amazon ahead of COP30, which will take place in Belém later this month.
Global Citizen also announced the all-time impact milestone that $50 billion has been deployed on its platforms since the movement’s founding.

The Brazilian audience was captivated by Coldplay’s Chris Martin as he lit up the stage with celebrated chart-toppers ‘A Sky Full of Stars,’ ‘Yellow,’ and ‘Paradise’ on guitar and the keyboard. He was joined by Anitta for a mesmerizing duet of crowd-favorite ‘Viva La Vida.’ Shawn Mendes surprised the stadium with a recorded performance of ‘Youth’ and a heartfelt message to protect the Amazon.

“Global Citizen Festival: Amazônia stands as a powerful example of all that is possible when governments, corporations, grassroots organizations, and everyday citizens unite to defend the planet. Together, we have mobilized $1 billion dollars to protect the Amazon—funds that will help guard local and Indigenous communities from illegal deforestation or mining. This is the power of collective action on a global stage,” said Michael Sheldrick, Co-Founder and Chief Policy, Impact and Government Relations Officer, Global Citizen. “But the work continues. Ahead of COP30, we’re calling on the United Kingdom, Germany, and France to commit to new, innovative financing mechanisms and strengthen national climate plans to match the scale of the challenge. This is how we can turn global promises into real protection for the lungs of our planet.”
Global Citizen Festival: Amazônia was broadcast across Brazil exclusively on Globo, including live on Multishow, and Globoplay, open to non-subscribers in Brazil, with highlights airing free on TV Globo, so viewers across Brazil could watch and take action in real time. Outside of Brazil, the festival was live streamed globally on YouTube, and on ViX across the U.S., Mexico and Latin America.

Collectively, these pledges mark a decisive step forward in protecting the Amazon rainforest’s ecosystems, advancing Indigenous rights, and driving sustainable livelihoods by laying the groundwork for a new era of forest finance and climate leadership.
Alongside these conservation efforts, major commitments were made to accelerate a just energy transition and support frontline communities. Global Citizen Festival: Amazônia was the most sustainable music festival ever to take place in the Amazon region, powered entirely by battery, fossil-oil free biofuels, and solar power gathered on the roof of the Mangueirão. The entire carbon footprint of the festival was offset by Comerc Energia and Future Climate. All emissions were monitored and will be reported by independent experts, including Hope Solutions and Showpower.
