The Declaration of Human Rights has 30 articles. They lay out what a human life should look like: free from discrimination and persecution, free to think and believe openly and full of opportunity and hope.

Each article returns to the same idea: a human life should never be violated or reduced.

It's an idea shaped by a fear of its opposite. The Declaration was signed in 1948. One of the bloodiest wars of all time occurred just a few years before. Countries were still coping with the trauma.

They realized such suffering should not happen again.

And so they drew up a list of conditions that a human needs to realize his or her full potential.

These conditions have never been fully met. They are violated every day. Humans--especially women--all over the world are being reduced and deprived in countless ways.

But the world is improving. And everywhere people are striving to ensure and uphold the rights of people.

Today, on #HumanRights Day, spend some time thinking about the people around the world who need to be advocated for, and then spread awareness of their cause.

Here are 15 calls to action to get you started.

The Declaration of Human Rights suffuses every aspect of the Global Goals.

If anything, the Global Goals are simply a fuller and more modernized version of the declaration.

So to support the cause for universal human rights, a good place to start is with the Global Goals.

You can go to TAKE ACTION NOW to call on world leaders everywhere to acheive the Global Goals.
