Imagine living in a future where air pollution is so bad that people have adapted by growing long nose hair.

It might sound completely ridiculous, but environmental group WildAid has released a new public service announcement depicting such a bizarre world.

Set in futuristic China, survivors of air pollution evolved to have excessively long nose hair that filters out smog. Everyone from young families to dogs sport fashionable and elaborately groomed nose hair.

The video was made in response to a recent WildAid poll, in which 90 percent of Chinese citizens said air pollution is their biggest health and environmental concern.

In China, the PSA is being shown on popular social media websites, national TV networks, and subway and taxi screens in major cities.

While the video depicts the future of air pollution through humor, the issue is no joking matter.

Air pollution affects the environment and health of every country in the world. It’s damage is particularly visible in China, the world’s largest emitter of greenhouse gases.

According to WildAid.org, every year there at least 500,000 premature deaths attributed to air pollution. In northern Chinese cities, where pollution is much worse, life expectancy is 5.5 years lower than in the south. And deaths from lung cancer have rise by an enormous 465% over the past 30 years.

Amongst the laughs, WildAid hopes to get ordinary people thinking on what they can do to take action on air pollution.

The video’s ultimate message is to “change air pollution before it changes you.”
