Turning on the faucet or using the bathroom may feel like an ordinary act to me. But for the 2.5 billion people around the world who don’t have access to basic sanitation, using a toilet is a luxury. For the 748 million people who don’t have access to a clean water source, running water is inconceivable.

Something as simple as pouring a clean glass of water should be accesible to all.

The US Congress is hoping to make this a reality with the Senator Paul Simon Water for the World Act of 2013. This bill presents an opportunity for Congress to pass bipartisan legislation that will have a real impact on thousands of lives across the globe. Water for the World Act helps ensure that our WASH programming is targeted to help the world’s poorest, is more effective, with long-term, sustainable impacts. The World for World Act is an easy piece of legislation to get behind. That’s why it currently has 87 Congressional cosponsors in the House of Representatives.

And that’s no coincidence.

Global citizens like you have worked hard to help build legislative support for the bill. We are so close to making safe sources of water and sanitation accessible for all a reality.
