Each week, streaming sites like Netflix, HBO, and Amazon release a whole spate of new movies for us to gobble up.

Streaming:

1. "Volcano" on Netflix, Drama

"Volcano," originally called "Ixcanul," is a critically acclaimed Mayan-language film about a Guatemalan pig farmer who dreams of leaving her small town for a better future. In some ways a traditional coming-of-age flick, this movie turned heads for its use of the Kaqchikel language, its beautiful wide-angled shots, and the stunning performance by actress Maria Mercedes Coroy. 2. "Fatima" on Netflix, Drama

In "Fatima," an immigrant woman's final rebellion against the patriarchal system that held her back her whole life is raising two daughters to break racial, and gender, boundaries. Fatima, must adapt to a new cultural context, and at the same time learn to relate to her growing daughters as they navigate French culture.  

3. "Queen of Katwe," on Google Play, Biopic

The true story of a young Ugandan chess prodigy, "Queen of Katwe" tells the story of the mathematical phenom and her journey to gain international recognition.

4. "Blood Diamond," on Amazon, Action/Adventure 

Starring environmental steward and engaged Global Citizen, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Beninese-American actor Djimon Houndsou, "Blood Diamond" is a fast-paced action movie that details a very real problem: that of diamond mining in West Africa. The movie takes place in the 1990s in Sierra Leone, where contentious diamond mining led to a brutal 11-year civil war that displaced more than a million people and was responsible for the death of roughly 50,000.

"The Founder"

With more than 36,000 stores worldwide, the fast-food chain McDonalds is, for better or for worse, a uniquely global industry. "The Founder" details the organization's humble beginnings and its transformation into an empire worth over $90 billion.
