This article is the third part of a series from our events team and incredible volunteers joining Coldplay on the road for the next few weeks as they tour throughout Latin America. Check out the first blog here and second here.

This is an interview with Italo Bett, age 28, and a Volunteer for Global Citizen at Coldplay's show in Lima, Peru.

Describe your experience during the activation of signing up new Global Citizens to level the law on gender equality?

It was a life changing experience! Teaming up with people I just met, going out to the concert line to approach strangers to expose them to our cause, all with the same goal: get people to take action for change.

What did you learn?

Action is all about going out, walking the streets, spreading the word, helping people get access to information, and in the end engaging them -- all in a very dynamic way. Our society needs this and more to achieve justice and overcome the existing gaps in the different social issues that we face.

What surprised you about signing people up to be global citizens?

The interest of some folks to learn about Global Citizen beyond our explanation. People were going to social media while we were talking to them, asking powerful questions about this specific campaign [#LevelTheLaw] and other campaigns. People were open to listening and be active outside the petition sign up, they were taking pictures, recording videos and uploading to social media. All to spread the mission of ending extreme poverty.

Why are you a global citizen?

Because I care. I believe the world can be united to fight injustice. I believe that barriers can be broken and we can put purpose in front of what we do, and try to leave a legacy for future generations and collaborate with our brothers and sisters all over the world. Knowing that a petition that I help sign in Lima is helping modify a law that will help, for example, our friends in Chile is just amazing.

What was your favorite part of the day?

When the team got together at the end of the sign up collection. It felt like I was meeting with long time friends and just few hours had gone by. Sharing our experience, laughing about incidents, just being together knowing that we were all part of a team. Walking in the stadium with them, taking our picture together, just created a big emotion mixed with satisfaction and left me wanting to do the exact same thing the next day.
