One of the greatest legacies of our generation will be seeing the full eradication of polio. In 1988, the year before I was born, there were around 350,000 cases of polio per year. Thus far in 2015, there have been under 100 cases of polio. The global community is truly steps away from seeing the end of polio!

And, it is impossible to underestimate the leadership that the United States Government has provided in the fight to end polio forever. In 2015, the United States contributed $217.7 million to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. This represented a funding increase from $205 million in 2014!

Last week I attended a reception in the Senate celebrating Rotary International's Global Polio Eradication Champions. It was incredible to hear from amazing leaders like Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) and Senator Thad Cochran (R-MS) who have long been leaders on this issue.

Congressman Steve Cohen (R-TN) explained some of the conversations that he has had with folks opposed to vaccinations. He explained that, "Those folks are wild - you need to be wild too!"

Congressswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) also stated her support for polio eradication. She explained, "when I look around this room I know that we're going to get there."

You heard it, folks. We need to get wild. Show world leaders how much you want to see the end of polio.Sign the petition in the Take Action Now box!
