Adarsh Shrivastava, who was riding on the train, noticed that a large group of crying girls were accompanied by just two men, and all appeared uncomfortable. He immediately tweeted his location and a description of the travelers to railroad officials and others, including Minister of Indian Railways Piyush Goya and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the hope that someone would intervene, reported Hindustan Times.

Officials in Varanasi and Lucknow responded swiftly to the alert, coordinating with Childline and the anti-trafficking unit of the police, apprehending the group, taking the men into custody, and notifying parents.

The girls were handed over to the child welfare committee when they “were unable to answer [questions] convincingly,” according to the Hindustan Times. The minors are believed to be between the ages of 10 and 14.

Shrivastava has since been hailed by those on social media as a hero for his quick thinking, and his initial tweet has been retweeted more than 7,000 times, accruing 4,000 comments, according to Gulf News.
