I moved to New York last fall without ever having been to the city. My first job here I found through Craigslist and involved working at a restaurant in Hell’s Kitchen. I lived in Brooklyn, and was hoping for a job closer to my apartment but after two weeks of job hunting (which I know is not that long) I was ready to try out something a little further. I took the train for fifty minutes, transferring once, and found myself in a very cute “middleterranean” (yes, that's a combination of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean) restaurant. I had no idea that because of the location, I would soon be scheduling dinners for ambassadors from the UN, people working on the Colbert Report and the Daily Show, and talent from broadway shows. I still work at this restaurant and I still call my parents with just as much excitement each time someone I admire comes in.

Just the other week, I was walking to work and noticed the next two blocks had guard rails that I normally associate with blocking a stage at concert. There were more police cars than I had ever seen in the area. I assumed there was a festival or something going on in the neighborhood. Before I got to work, I asked the police officer stationed outside the restaurant what was going on and he replied that President Obama was going to film at the Daily Show.

The Daily Show has been quite the source of excitement and entertainment for me, and I am definitely sad to see the show come to an end. I think the humor and creativity of the show was revolutionary in informing and encouraging many Americans (like my brother) who otherwise would have little interest in global issues and politics. So in honor of the last episode of the Daily Show (which airs tonight) here are my ten favorite moments from the Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

1. When Jon Stewart shut down Crossfire

Okay not the Daily Show, but still awesome.

2. When Jessica Williams joined the Daily Show

And when she gave some real advice on campus safety.

3. When Jon Stewart played Spot the Africa

4. That time Jon Stewart wanted to adopt Malala

(Check out 5:40)

5. Charleston: When Jon Stewart didn’t do his job

6. When Jon Stewart called out US Senators blocking a bill that supported victims of human trafficking

7. When Maziar Bahari blamed Jon Stewart for his imprisonment in Iran

And when Jon Stewart did the Daily Show in 60 seconds.

8. When Jon Stewart called out food companies..and we found out what's really in a powdered donut

And when he talked to a hamburger and almondand when the Daily Show tackled food aid reform.

9. When Jon Stewart addressed gender inequality

And when he shut down the media for their portrayal of poverty.

10. And finally, Jon Stewart’s last interview with President Obama.

Because POTUS also understands that Jon Stewart “has been a great gift to the country.” (21:39)

BONUS: There was even that time Jon Stewart got spending on education wrong and we all still loved him.

I will definitely miss such a clever, witty show that not only called out media and news reporters but also made current events and politics interesting and hilarious by pointing out the absurdity in some of the world’s- and especially the US’s- issues.
