It’s not uncommon for legendary pairs to share the stage for the first time at a Global Citizen Festival. In 2015, Eddie Vedder and Beyoncé shared the stage in at Global Citizen Festival in Central Park, and a year later, Coldplay performed with Ariana Grande in New York.
This year, at Global Citizen Festival Hamburg, the unique pairings and stellar performances by artists, activists, and world leaders were on display on-stage all night.

The show opened with special guest Shakira joining Coldplay for their hit song, “Yellow,” as blasts of pastel star-shaped confetti floated down toward the crowd.

Pharrell Williams, performed solo speaking to the crowd about their activism and its impact until he invited nearly a hundred global citizens to join him onstage for his performance of, “Freedom.”
Ellie Goulding rocked the stage with performances of, “Burn,” “Love Me Like You Do,” and “First Time.”
And Andreas Bourani and Chris Martin each joined fellow headliner, Herbert Grönemeyer during his closing set.
