It has been fantastic to see not just women but also men speak out in support of the women in their lives this week. It seems people were surprised when support also came from one of the most unlikely places — an Australian all-boys secondary school.

Students from Sydney Boys High School released a video stating why feminism matters. As reported by the Sydney Morning Herald, the video was part of a week-long campaign at the school that examined why feminism matters to both men and women.

When making the video, the students gathered quotes from the women in their lives including teachers, family, and friends. Some of the quotes revealed confronting and personal stories such as, a girl who was told by her father that, "I should be ashamed of my body and I had thunder thighs." The powerful video shows the male students reading out all the quotes they had collected.

The boys finished the video by speaking in unison, summing up the point of the video by saying: “Feminism is important to the women in our live, so it should be important to us too.”

To achieve gender equality by 2030, it is going to take effort from all of us, all around the world including young men such as these students.
