At Global Citizen we recognize that US foreign aid is critical to achieving our goal: to eliminate extreme poverty by 2030.

When the Trump administration proposed a 32% cut to the international affairs budget, Global Citizens across the country raised their voice against cuts to foreign aid funding.

Congress heard them, and the House of Representatives proposed a significantly small cut to international affairs of 17.2% in their appropriations bill in July.

But our work to #StopTheCuts is not done. 17.2% will still cut vital funding for programs that save people’s lives. To lift the 800 million people around the world out of poverty, we must press our leaders to support US foreign aid.

To encourage even more US citizens to show their support for US foreign aid and the lives it saves, Global Citizen has created an exciting sweepstakes. For the first time ever, Global Citizen is offering three VIP packages to the Global Citizen festival in New York City for people from three key states in the Midwest.

WHAT IS THE SWEEPSTAKES?

Global Citizen is offering three VIP packages and a trip for two to the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park this August. Three winners, one each from Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky, and their guest will receive a round-trip flights, hotels and VIP tickets to see Stevie Wonder and more in NYC!

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SWEEPSTAKES?

Global Citizen will cover your flight, hotel, and VIP tickets to the festival. Food, alcohol (if you’re of legal age), Metrocards and expenses at the hotel are not included in the sweepstakes.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO WIN?

Only residents of Tennessee, Kentucky, and Arkansas can win one of the VIP packages, but their guest can be anyone. There will be only one winner from each state — not three from one state and none from the other two states, or any other combination.

HOW ARE THE WINNERS CHOSEN?

Global Citizen will hold a lottery for each state, and one winner will be randomly selected from each. Each person’s name is entered only once in the drawing, so everyone has an equal chance of winning.

WHY IS GLOBAL CITIZEN TARGETING TENNESSEE, ARKANSAS AND KENTUCKY?

We continue to focus our grassroots efforts in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Arkansas as these states are home to influential members including the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Chairperson of the House Budget Committee, and Senate Majority Leader. These leaders could help influence the debate over the foreign affairs budget cuts.

Global Citizen traveled to these three states to give a speaking tour on foreign aid and spoke with key leaders there, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. While many congressmen and women have spoken out against the cuts to foreign aid, it is important for congress people to hear from their constituents that they, too, support US foreign aid.

WHAT CAMPAIGN IS THIS SUPPORTING?

This sweepstakes was inspired by our #StopTheCuts campaign to support total funding of US foreign aid. US foreign aid provides needed assistance toward all areas Global Citizen campaigns on: food aid, education, health, women’s rights and opportunities, safe drinking water and promoting citizenship. From creating educational opportunities for boys and girls in Haiti to providing food aid in East Africa, US foreign aid saves lives and plants seeds for a better world.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO ENTER?

If you haven’t done so already, sign up to be a global citizen! Once you’re signed up, you can start taking actions under the “Take Action” tab and enter into our rewards program. Once there, you can find the action asking you to call your senator to ask him or her to fully fund foreign aid. Enter your phone number into the box provided, and we will connect you with the office of the senator you need to call. Once you make the call, you will be automatically entered in the lottery!
