Stephen Colbert just did something truly awesome for students and teachers in South Carolina. Last week he announced that he will be funding ALL of the grant requests by South Carolina public school teachers made this year through a web platform called donorschoose.org

What a guy!

On the site, teachers can list various projects and needs they want to fund at their schools, ranging from basic school supplies to computers and ipads to enhance learning for their students.

Colbert is a South Carolina native and board member of DonorsChoose. He will be giving a total of $800,000 USD to support nearly 1,000 projects at over 375 schools. How awesome is that?! To make this amazing contribution happen, he partnered with Share Fair Nation and ScanSource and even auctioned off the famous desk from the set of the Colbert Report.

In the fight to end extreme poverty, education is a MAJOR priority. Access to education is such a critically important issue worldwide, with an estimated 250 million children globally who don’t have access to a quality education and an estimated 58 million children around the world who don’t have the opportunity to go to school at all. This needs to change!

It’s super inspiring to see that Colbert has taken action to improve education in the United States. So thanks for all that you do Mr. Colbert, the world needs more amazing people like you.

P.S. Colbert for President 2016!!
