Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership that has helped immunize 500 million children since its inception in 2000, saving countless lives around the world from preventable diseases. Its global health initiatives regarding vaccines engage Gavi-eligible countries to be financially and vocally involved in determining the needs of each respective nation.

In this video message, Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) singles out the significance of Gavi’s work and its contribution to global health and national security. “Funding vaccinations is the right thing to do when it comes to our obligations as members of the human race,” Murphy states, “but what Gavi is doing and what they are now going to be able to do at a greater scale because of this investment announced by the Obama administration is actually protecting our country as well.” 22 million children a year do not get all of their required vaccinations, and Gavi seeks to reduce that number to zero. “Congratulations to Gavi on the amazing work that you’ve done and that you’re going to do in the future,” Murphy concludes.
