Raise your hand to put education first!
We’ve reached a pivotal moment: the deadline for achieving universal primary education as set by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals is approaching. We can achieve a breakthrough in ending poverty by investing upfront in high quality education, giving all children the chance to live healthy, prosperous and empowered lives.
Educating children no matter where they are is one of the biggest steps we can take toward ending extreme poverty. Education is key to building a society that can overcome poverty in a sustainable manner. Investing in human capital brings about powerful social change and creates opportunities for those in developing countries to realize their full potential and to become leaders of the generation to come.
The Global Citizen Festival, in partnership with the UN Special Envoy for Education and A World at School Initiative, will shine the spotlight on this education emergency in which 57 million children still do not have access to basic primary education – despite the world’s promise to put every child in school by 2015.
That is why, we are asking our government leaders to join us and our 60,000 Global Citizens at our Festival this September 28, 20013 to make a commitment to increase financial support for The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) – the only multilateral partnership devoted to getting all children good quality education.
