Quiz: How Much Do You Know About Extreme Poverty?
Today is #PovertyEradicationDay. How much do you know about extreme poverty around the world?
In 1987, the United Nations observed the first International Day for the Eradication of Poverty in honor of the victims of extreme poverty. On that day, October 17, more than 100,000 people gathered at the Trocadero in Paris in solidarity with the world’s poor.
Significant strides have been made since that time in reducing extreme poverty. More than 1 billion people moved out of extreme poverty between 1990 and 2013. But there is still much work to be done. A recent report by the World Bank, “Taking on Equality,” provided an overview of the challenges we need to confront to eliminate extreme poverty.
Understanding the scope of world poverty is an important step toward working to eliminate it. So how much do you really know about poverty and inequality around the world? Take this quiz with stats compiled by the World Bank.
