First Lady Michelle Obama teamed up with Missy Elliott and Diane Warren to create an all-star anthem for girls: “This is For My Girls.” The new song was announced at SXSW and is a part of the First Lady’s #62MillionGirls campaign.

#62MillionGirls, announced last year at our Global Citizen Festival in conjunction with Let Girls Learn and Girl Rising, is a campaign to break down the barriers that keep #62MillionGirls around the world from accessing an education.

This song, “This is for My Girls, ” kicks off the second phase of the #62MillionGirls campaign. It was written by Diane Warren, and features stars Missy Elliot, Janelle Monae, Zendaya, Kelly Clarkson, Kelly Rowland, Lea Michele, Chole X Halle and Jadagrace.

All of the proceeds from the song are going directly to the Let Girls Learn Peace Corp fund.

At SXSW the First Lady announced the new song while speaking on a panel of inspirational women in the entertainment industry including Missy Elliot, Diane Warren and Sophia Bush and Queen Latifah.

When asked why she wanted to create a song for her campaign, Michelle Obama said, “it usually starts with something that moves you personally and #62MillionGirls not getting an education moves me personally.”

#62MillionGirls will continue to help girls around the world follow their dreams and ensure they get a quality education.
