Global Citizen 2015 Earth Day highlighted the importance of increasing funding for the Global Partnership for Education to $125 million in 2016. United States Representatives Nita Lowey (D-NY), Joseph Crowley (D-NY), Judy Chu (D-CA), Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Ted Lieu (D-CA) appeared together to highlight the significance of ensuring that all children have the opportunity to receive an education.

The United States pledged $45 million to the Global Partnership for Education in 2015, $5 million over the initial request. But, we can do so much better. To a crowd of more than 270,000 people on the National Mall in Washington, DC, Congressman Lieu declared, “I’m working with my colleagues in Congress to ensure the United States increases funding for the Global Partnership for Education to $125 million in 2016.” The more voices heard, the more likely it is we’re going to reduce the number of sixty million children not in school.
