Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla Chan have just shown the world what being a Global Citizen is all about.

In response the Ebola epidemic spreading across Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea, Zuckerberg and his wife donated a staggering $25 million to the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Mic reports that the funds will likely be used for personnel, training and equipment for emergency Ebola care centers.

I love that Zuckerberg brings up the notion of “responsibility” as opposed to charity or philanthropy. It’s right in line with what we believe at Global Citizen. As a global community that’s as interconnected as it is today, we have a responsibility to look out for one another. We believe that our voices are our biggest weapons, and clearly Zuckerberg, with over 30 million Facebook followers, agrees.
