Did you hear the news?

At the age of 17, Malala Yousafzai has just become the youngest person to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, alongside Indian children's right activist Kailash Satyarthi.

Both were chosen "for their struggle against the oppression of children and young people, and for the right of all children to education," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said .

Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, further explained:

"Despite her youth, Malala Yousafzai, has already fought for several years for the right of girls to education and has shown by example that children and young people too can contribute to improving their own situations.”

"This she has done under the most dangerous circumstances. Through her heroic struggle she has become a leading spokesperson for girls' rights to education."

Check out this awesome video of Malala on Jon Stewart where she leaves him speechless:

Malala has been an incredible ally to Global Citizen as we fight to end extreme poverty by 2030. As both a youth and education activist, she has been working with us to garner support for the Global Partnership for Education. And, currently, she has joined us in calling on Canada to step up.

Malala joined Global Citizens at the Global Citizen Festival to call on Canada to make a strong commitment towards education for all by supporting the Global Partnership for Education:

“Your voices have been heard, but we need to come together one more time. I'm carrying the voices of Global Citizens with me to call on Canada to act now and make a bold and increased commitment to the Global Partnership for Education.”

Malala is a Global Citizen. Sign-up to Global Citizen and join the movement to end extreme poverty by 2030.
