Leo Dicaprio dedicated his Best Actor win at last night’s British Academy of Film and Television Arts to his mother on her 73rd birthday.

Overall, The film, "The Revenant" won five awards at the 69th BAFTA awards ceremony including Leo DiCaprio’s win. The actor was gleaming more than the sparkling decorations at the awards ceremony.

In an emotional speech, Leo dedicated his win to the extra special lady in his life.

The win was emotional, yet exciting, and Leo was not afraid to share his feelings with the crowd about dedicating it to the woman who raised him:

"I didn't grow up in a life of privilege and this woman drove me three hours a day to a different school to show me a different opportunity," he proclaimed. "It's her birthday today. Mom, I love you very much."

If charming Leo isn’t a prime example of how education can truly change a person and through them the world, then what is?

Cheers to moms and education!

As an actor by day, environment and education enthusiast by night, Leo is fighting extreme global poverty as a global citizen with a humble heart.

Women are the key to successful and sustainable development, and Mama DiCaprio has proven this by allowing her son to live in a world of opportunity! Who knows, maybe even Leo’s love for the environment all came from his incredible mother?

Education can be the leading force to help people navigate out of the vicious cycle of poverty because of its direct connection to opportunity.

Whether it is education for #62milliongirls that do not have access to education, education for refugee children, how educating girls just may be the key to ending extreme global poverty, or realizing that there should be #booksnotbullets, learning is a means to an end to extreme poverty. With education comes a variety of perspectives on the world, which is important because how you look at the world changes the way you make choices.

Leo’s dedication speaks volumes to mothers and education everywhere in fighting to make Goal 4: Quality Education of the Global Goals a reality. To ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning, global citizens everywhere can support fair education policies, encourage education, and support the idea that girls and women hold a lot of power to unlock a better future!

Following Leo’s example by speaking out about mothers, education, and opportunity is one small step towards this better future.
