Food waste has been a recurring character all month long on Global Citizen as part of July's theme, Food & Nutrition.

Exhibit A: My colleague Jill just did a great explainer on some cutting-edge approaches to reducing food waste. You might have also seen our recent vlog on the topic.

The fact is, food waste is a big deal when it comes to world hunger. We live in a world where millions of people go to bed hungry every night, yet countries like the US routinely waste more than a third of all the food they produce.

That's a story everyone needs to know about.

So you can imagine how pumped I was to see that food waste is the subject of a brilliant new takedown from none other than John Oliver—and just in time for Food & Nutrition Month, no less!

That's right: the new king of longform late-night "fake" news devoted the flagship segment of last Sunday's episode of Last Week Tonight to the topic of food waste. Watch the video above to see how Oliver delves into some of the reasons why oh so much of the food produced in the United States goes to waste.

I strongly encourage you to take 18 minutes and watch the segment from start to finish. It's that good.

(And if the video leaves you hungry for another take on food waste, check out my recent vlog, starring vegetables dressed as office workers. Trust me, that last bit will make more sense once you watch it.)
