1 in 10 children worldwide still go through life without even a basic primary education. That’s 57 million children who are still denied an education despite the world's promise to put every child into school by 2015. And even for those who do make it into school, the quality of education they receive is often disastrously poor.

Rep. Kay Granger serves as the Chairwoman of the House Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs which is a subcommittee of the House Appropriations Committee. Rep. Granger makes crucial decisions on how much money will be allocated around increasing access to education.

Last summer, Rep. Granger filmed a short video for the Global Citizen Festival about why increasing access to education around the world is important. Rep. Granger said, “I travel a great deal and I have witnessed what it is like in countries that don’t value universal education.”

Rep. Granger explains that, “The way out of poverty, the way that democracy is created, the way to extend opportunities to every global citizen, is through education. Your continued commitment to this cause will help ensure that all children in any class, in any country, can have a shot at education.”
