Surprisingly well actually!
The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria released their latest results yesterday, and the stats are astounding.
More people than ever before are receiving treatment for HIV…
In fact, 6.1 million people living with HIV were receiving antiretroviral therapy under programs supported by the Global Fund by the end of 2013, up from 5.3 million six months ago and from 4.2 million at the end of 2012.
…and for tuberculosis
GF-Results2013-tb-GC
The number of new smear-positive TB cases detected and treated increased to 11.2 million, up from 9.7 million at the end of 2012. This increase was largely due to a higher number of treated cases in Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Indonesia, Nigeria and Pakistan.
More families are being provided with the protection of insecticide treated bed nets
GF-Results2013-malaria-GC
This year, 50 million additional insecticide-treated nets were distributed to help protect families from mosquitoes carrying malaria. Distribution programs were expanded in Sudan, South Sudan and Nigeria, taking the total number of nets distributed by the Global Fund to 360 million.
But to continue this important work, the Global Fund needs ongoing funding
The Global Fund is currently preparing for the launch of its Fourth Replenishment round in Washington D.C. on 2-3 December 2013, hosted by the United States government.
