A few days ago, my colleague Hans published an interview with Maya Albanese, the filmmaker behind “Cuba’s Violin.”

The documentary tells the story of how determined Cuban musicians are overcoming the boundaries preventing them from pursuing their dreams. Check out the trailer here!

Today, Maya is telling a new story. She has graciously agreed to lend her voice to Global Voices to discuss a surprising factor behind school absences in a rural region of Nepal.

Watch the video to find out how one person helped high school graduation rates go from just 11% to 84% in two years.
