The 2016 Global Nutrition Report was released June 14. This annual report is the leading measurement for the state of global nutrition. What did this year’s findings reveal?

The world is off track to reach global targets on nutrition and end malnutrition by 2030.

Malnutrition is happening in every country, affecting 1 in 3 people globally. The problem is more varied than you may think, with consequences ranging from underweight, wasting and stunting, to obesity and diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. According to the Global Nutrition Report, malnutrition is costing economies across Africa and Asia a loss of 11% in economic activity to their gross domestic product every year.

We still have time to reverse this trend. Together, we can build a truly HungerFree world where everyone has access to the right food today, enough food for tomorrow and sustainable food to prevent hunger in the future.

To achieve this vision, much more political action is needed. A threefold increase in financial investment to be exact, accompanied with measurable accountability.

The good news is that every dollar invested in nutrition yields 16 dollars in returns and helps us achieve  sustainable development in health, education, female empowerment and poverty reduction.
