Global Citizen Live, a 24-hour global broadcast event, attracted viewers from all over the world on Saturday, Sept. 25 — in-person and at-home — in a stunning moment of unity with artists, activists, world leaders, corporations, and philanthropists all joining the call to defend the planet and defeat poverty.
Across the globe, vaccinated audiences danced, sang along, and celebrated a long-awaited return to live music. From New York City to Lagos, Paris to Rio de Janeiro, incredible events, performances, and appearances took place across seven continents, took over major cities, and featured extraordinary commitments to protect the environment, fight hunger, and end the COVID-19 pandemic.
Global Citizen Live truly proved to be a once-in-a-generation event for unity and action. Musicians and activists called on world leaders to support Global Citizen’s ongoing Recovery Plan for the World, calling for action to halt climate change and for wealthy countries to deliver on the $100 billion climate pledge, $6 billion for famine relief, and vaccine justice.
Thanks to partnerships between government, philanthropy, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, more than $1.1 billion, 157 million trees, and 60 million COVID-19 vaccine doses were announced at the event.
