The Earth Institute partners with Global Poverty Project for Community Health Workers
WHAT'S THE COMMITMENT?
At the Global Citizen Festival 2013, GlaxoSmithKline pledged USD $750,000 to supporting the deployment of community health workers.
WHAT PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE?
GlaxoSmithKline has supported the One Million Community Health Workers Campaign in the development of an online interactive system to track community health workers activities. Two field specialists who provide direct support to Ministries of Health are also funded by the contribution from GlaxoSmithKline.
WHAT'S THE IMPACT?
The computer system built with funds from GlaxoSmithKline will allow the activities of community health workers to be recorded, including population data on the people served by each health worker. The system will eventually include workforce analytics as well. The data this computer system provides will reveal critical information enabling community health workers to better serve the healthcare needs of people living in extreme poverty.
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
Phase 1 of the computer system development is complete, GlaxoSmithKline will continue to support the implementation of Phase 2. Global Poverty Project will continue to engage with the One Million Community Health Workers Campaign and GlaxoSmithKline, tracking the progress of Phase 2 development until completion.
