Mashable released an article this week that said selfies were more deadly than shark attacks this year, terrifying iPhone users everywhere.

At the 2015 Global Citizen Festival this weekend you’ll probably be tempted to take a selfie or two. Here are some practical tips for staying safe while you do it.

1. Treat selfies like you would a crosswalk.

Always look both ways and be aware of your surroundings before you make your move.

2. Never selfie in the middle of populated walkways or streets.

A good question to ask yourself, “Am I causing a hundreds of people to divert from their originally intended path by selfie-ing here?” If your answer is yes, step to the side and selfie considerately.

3. Do not selfie anywhere from which you could potentially fall and hurt yourself.

Like, just don’t. This includes stairwells, ramps, standing in a chair, cliffs, etc. These are where accidents have happened in the past, according to the Mashable article.

4. Never hold your phone so high above your head that dropping it could injure someone.

Keep your angles modest to ensure no one gets a black eye or broken nose. Or worse, a cracked phone screen.

5. Whenever possible, selfie for a good cause.
