Today there are 43 million refugees worldwide. It is a staggering, heartbreaking number. A number greater than the population of many countries.

News stories remind us of their tragedies, the danger of their journeys, the political conflicts that force them to flee. But what about the hope and success refugees' find in the years following their displacement?

It's not often we stumble upon miraculous, inspirational refugee stories. But Estelle's story is just that. Estelle is one of over 3 million people from the Democratic Republic of the Congo who, amid ongoing conflict, have either been internally displaced or have fled to another country. This video is an artistic portrayal of her escape. Through her eyes we feel the fear, disorientation and desperation as she flees during the chaos of an attack. She is safe, but is her family? Hers is the story of many refugees who are separated from family members, helpless to find out if they are still alive.

Refugees United works to assist them. The organization has a mobile platform through which refugees are able to search for friends and family, and then SMS them to reconnect. It is how, after 16 years of separation, Estelle discovered her sister was living in a town only 5 kilometers away. Now they are reunited, and continue to use the platform to search for other members of their family. With some refugees reconnecting after over two decades of separation, there is always reason for hope.

And their chances of success will only increase the more people know of Refugees United's work. Share Estelle's video to spread a story that matters and help other refugees reconnect with their loved ones.
