End Poverty in all its forms everywhere.

US Congresswoman Barbara Lee is an exemplary example of leadership in the fight to eradicate poverty and global inequality. As a member of the House Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, she’s working to increase US funding for critical initiatives that end poverty.

“When people live in extreme poverty the whole world suffers. Extreme poverty endangers global public health, prevents children from going to school, and spreads hopelessness and despair. We all have an obligation to combat it. As a member of Congress, I know that ending global poverty is a challenge that every nation needs to meet.”

Lee introduced legislation, entitled the “House Concurrent Resolution 6” to obtain a congressional commitment to dedicate at least 1% of US GDP to nonmilitary foreign assistance programs. This bill recognizes the importance of foreign assistance programs in promoting national security, demonstrating the American people's humanitarian spirit and improving US credibility in world affairs.

“By raising your voice for the world’s most vulnerable we can start a movement to ensure every person can live with dignity.” This focus on human dignity it so important. At this year’s Global Citizen Festival, President Obama touched spoke about dignity and justice in a video message --

“When so many families still live in extreme poverty and chronic hunger, when so many mothers still die from childbirth, when so many children still die from preventable diseases—that is a moral outrage. It is a profound injustice. We have come together, as one world, to realize the change that we seek.”

For the dignity of all, global citizens must stand together and encourage leaders to end global poverty once and for all by 2030.
