Being Canadian means different things to different people within the country, but what does it mean abroad? How does Hollywood, for instance, see Canada? ‘The Great Canadian Supercut’ attempts to answer that question.

In honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary, the website Dear Cast & Crew created ‘The Great Canadian Supercut,’ a video that pulls together clips from 150 films that reference Canada or Canadian (with one exception of Brad Pitt saying Ontario in the movie ‘Allied’).

They originally got the idea from Pitt’s film “Allied,” in which he plays a Canadian soldier. The website’s writers decided to list off other films featuring Canadian characters (and actors) and then to dig even deeper.

As it turns out, Canada is referenced quite a bit in Hollywood, and not always in jest (ahem, ‘South Park’) or in reference to the cold (though that stereotype seems to have really stuck). The supercut includes clips from films like ‘Knocked Up,’ ‘Weird Science,’ ‘Collateral Damage,’ and ‘Die Hard: With a Vengeance.’

And yes, sometimes the country is joked about, or assumed to be a place of safety, but that’s not always the case. Watch the video and you’ll see moments showcasing the Canadian military and the country’s coveted passports, and likely get a few good laughs too.
