The Earth Institute partners with Global Poverty Project for Community Health Workers

WHAT'S THE COMMITMENT?

At the Global Citizen Festival 2013, BT pledged USD $100,000 to efforts for community health workers.

WHAT PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE?

Through the One Million Community Health Workers Campaign, the support from BT is enabling planning workshops with sub-Saharan African governments and other partners.

WHAT'S THE IMPACT?

BT has fulfilled their commitment to support efforts to increase community health workers in sub-Saharan Africa by supporting the cost of 4 planning workshops. Workshops have already taken place in Ghana and Liberia, with Nigeria and Malawi to follow suit later in 2014. As a result of the workshops, ‘Roadmaps’ for planning and implementation of this huge increase in health workers are developed. As a result, mothers living in rural communities in sub-Saharan Africa will be more likely to survive childbirth, children will have an increased chance of living past the age of 5, and common illnesses are more likely to be treated.

WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

The One Million Community Health Workers Campaign will continue to work with governments and other partners in sub-Saharan Africa to increase access to healthcare in these rural communities.
