BREAKING: the Nigerian Ministry of Defense has just confirmed that 300 women and girls were rescued from a Boko Haram camp in Northern Nigeria.

According to an army spokesperson, these are not the kidnapped girls who sparked the hashtag campaign #BringBackOurGirls.

Regardless, this is a major cause for celebration.

It’s unacceptable that we still live in a world where girls can be kidnapped, forcibly married, and sold into slavery just for going to school.

It’s been over a year since Boko Haram attacked a school in the village of Chibok in Northern Nigeria and kidnapped more than 300 girls who were studying there. With any luck, the recent advances made against the group bring us one step closer to freeing all of their prisoners and creating an environment in Nigeria where no one is afraid to go to school.

Let’s keep up the momentum: click here to sign a petition calling on the new Nigerian President to use every available resource to #BringBackOurGirls and end the violence in Northern Nigeria.
